It's The Economy Stupid!

Does it really come as a surprise that everything is costing more these days?

The country's drought has produce prices rising every week, just compare your receipts to see that I'm right. Gas prices have caused everything that's moved by ground to go up as well. So, I knew my fruit basket prices were going to have to go up. I held out for as long as I could but by last month I had to face the facts. My costs have been steadily rising for years but I bore the brunt in an attempt to grow a clientele. My family's advice was to practically give them away until the return business grew enough to consider them loyal to the fruit basket. Once hooked on your product you could then do what you wanted.

I don't know about all that. The fact is that I just couldn't afford to take less anymore. My fruit costs continue to climb along with my gas and car maintenance expense. So, while I feel terrible raising prices when the economy is so bad, it's the very reason that I have to.

I had considered keeping the prices the same and changing the size of the fruit basket so that it contained less fruit, but, I didn't like the way the basket looked. Ultimately, I decided not to compromise the integrity of the design but, rather adjust the price and challenge the economy instead.

My apologies to the "haters" who want everything to stay the same, don't take it personally it's just the economy stupid!

Why Fruit?

I'll tell you "why fruit?"

Our ancestors discovered that fruits were necessary; provided by mother nature, fruits provide a natural  remedy for many of our ailments. They are packed with vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants and many phyto-nutrients (Plant derived micronutrients). They're not only a feast for our eyes bursting with vibrant colors but are essential in keeping the body fit and healthy!

Eating fruits rich in blue pigments offers many health benefits. These compounds have potent anti-oxidant properties, remove free radicals from the body, and thus offer protection against cancers, aging, infections etc.

Protect yourself from minor problems like wrinkling of skin, thinning hair, memory loss, age related degeneration of retina in the eyes, Alzheimer’s disease, colon cancers and osteoporosis, to mention just a few of the benefits that come from eating fruit.

It is recommended to eat at least 2-3 servings of fresh fruits every day. Include seasonal fruits in your daily diet. Eat a rainbow of colors every day; a variety of fruit, color, and flavor should be encouraged to get maximum health benefit.

So, what are you waiting for? Add a few pieces of fruit to your daily diet instead of a sugar snack and see what happens.

OMG! How Long Has it Been? Eat More Fruit!

Now is the perfect time of year to enjoy a variety of fruits, a cross of summer and fall.

Citrus isn't as sweet as we like it to be, but that's to be expected.  But you can find peaches and necterines right next to plums and pears this time of year.  For us it's great because there is more variety, more of a color mix in the basket.

Everything seems to be coming from somewhere other than here in the USA, but only because we want everything all year round.  Fortunately, everything is in season somewhere in the world to satisfy our fruity wants and needs!

Take advantage, order one of our Too Fruity Gift Baskets for someone you know that loves FRUIT.

#St. Patrick's Day 2011 in #Savannah!

Savannah, St. Patty's Day is tomorrow, are you having fun yet?

The party will start to gather tonight on River St., Bay St., in City Market and Forsyth Park and continue through Sunday, take advantage of the long weekend and try to pace yourself.

If you haven't been downtown yet, you'll find that the fountain in Forsyth Park is already, picture perfect, green. The proud display of green hats, t-shirts and jackets are evidence that we are all Irish this week here in Savannah. You can imagine and almost smell the corn beef and cabbage wafting through the streets. The green beer and grits are coming.

Besides all that, there is also a history of tradition here in Savannah. Our Irish families pay homage to their ancestral ties by showcasing traditional food, music & dance. Be on the look out for music and dance to be featured at Rousakis Plaza on River St. and of course in Forsyth Park among other sites. There is always a party welcoming the new Grand Marshall, this year it's Walter Crawford, and many attend the Fenian Irish Society breakfast before loading into their cars for the grand parade.

Hope to see you at the parade, I'll be wearing a green hat and a shirt that says "Kiss Me, Today I'm Irish!"

Don't forget to wear your GREEN!

Timing is Everything

Recently reminded of a delivery to someone who was retiring after 40 years in the same job!

What an incredible feat.  I don't know the whole story, it may not have been in the same position, but I could tell it was with the same employer.

I admire that..."if it's not broke don't fix it" way of thinking.  It certainly applied in this case.  The office was having a farewell party and I walked in with the basket in the middle of the party.  Co-workers were shuffling around, some were crying, it was like a funeral when I walked in.

But, everything took a turn for the better when they saw the fruit basket; as usual, it was bursting with vibrant color from top to bottom.  I heard cheers and applause among the oohhs & aahhs as I sat the basket down, it was just what was needed to turn the conversation around.

Timing is everything, is it time to make someone you know feel special?
